Wallets and identity

ERC-8004

ERC-8004, Trustless Agents, specifies onchain registries for agent identity, reputation, and validation. Identity is an ERC-721 whose URI points at a registration file. Reputation is a standard place to post feedback. Validation is a hook for an independent check. The standard does not settle payments.

Explanation

The EIP says the identity registry gives each agent a portable identifier. A reserved agentWallet metadata key is the address where the agent receives payment. It starts as the owner's address. Changing it requires proof of control, an EIP-712 signature for an ordinary key or ERC-1271 for a contract wallet. Transferring the agent NFT clears agentWallet until the new owner verifies it again. Clients that are themselves agents are told to use that address when they leave feedback.

The security section is explicit that a matching registration file does not prove the advertised agent is functional or safe, and that sybil feedback is possible. Reputation is a public signal, not a score the EIP computes for you. This index does not read the registries and does not add reputation to Agent GDP. A payment to an agentWallet counts only when it is also an x402 or MPP settlement under the methodology.
