payTo
payTo is a field on an x402 payment requirement. It names the recipient of that payment. In the version 2 specification it is a wallet address or a role constant such as merchant. When a facilitator settles onchain, the token recipient is the observable counterpart of payTo.
Explanation
PaymentRequired.accepts lists one or more ways to pay. Each entry has a scheme, a network, an amount, an asset, and payTo. The client chooses an entry it can satisfy and signs a payload for it. CDP's Bazaar catalog stores those requirements, and its discovery API can list every resource that pays a given payTo address.
This index does not parse the 402 header from every historical call. It reads the settled transfer. The seller address is the USDC recipient, which is payTo when the facilitator paid the address in the requirement. One payTo can front many resource URLs. Use-case labels are attached to those Bazaar resources and then rolled up to the payee. A payTo that never appears in the catalog stays unclassified until a later crawl links it.
